Alessandro Andreuccetti

Born in San Gimignano, Italy, in 1955, he studied art and architecture in Florence and then began his work in 1980 as an illustrator, designer and painter.

He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and in the world and many works are in public and private collections.

Statement

Shape, color and textures make up the skeleton on which I build my images, or perhaps it would be better to speak of visions or dreams because it all begins and develops first in my mind, more or less unconsciously, and later, much later, he moved on canvas or paper. Through the study of my subjects, whether they are figures, cities or landscapes I isolate and elaborate what for me is the soul of the subject itself, I snatch the primitive forms, I become master of their color, of light and shadow, freeze, as in a photograph, the magical moment when the objects reveal themselves then translate everything into the universal language of drawing and painting.

The figure

The human figure is perhaps the first subject represented in art history, is present in all periods of history and thus an almost obligatory theme for every artist. My approach to the human figure is strictly personal: abandoning any pretense of true or realistic representation, my research focuses on the volumetric perception of color and the subject emphasizing the relationship between light, color and form.

The city

The city is the cradle of our lives, the incubator of our thoughts, the casing that encloses our dreams, successes and defeats. My vision of the city is an idealized view, a faraway look that allows to abstract from the general context what strikes me most of the set of buildings, roads, spaces, windows, roofs, terraces and more. Again are the shapes and colors, the lights and shadows that emerge from this process of abstraction and are there to show my idea of city. In fact I do not paint a city but the idea of the city.

The landscapes

The landscape, in all its meanings and nuances, is my “safe haven”, a fetch in my head where I can take refuge and reload in peace. When ideas are scarce or are struggling to find the way to emerge all I have to do is open the book of sketches by scrolling through hundreds of drawings and notes that speak of my land, the countryside, the trees, the flowers. It’s all in there, helpful and generous and I have no choice but to reap the benefits.

“Representing life is the main purpose of my painting. The human figure, cities, nature constitute excellent subjects to be studied and transferred onto the canvas or on paper, but what most interests me is to discover and highlight the relationship that exists between the forms and colors of what I in front of. This relationship can be discovered through careful observation of reality and is expressed in a strictly personal representation of the object. ”

Ideas

Each painting has its own story and his own personal gestation. All can contribute to the initial spark, a photo, a sentence, a music. Before starting a lot of time thinking about the overall design of the new table, to color schemes to use, what to emphasize and what to leave in the background. Usually I take a lot of notes, I do sketches, I feel the colors, shadows, scompongo the subject into portions which then recomposed otherwise, schematizzo various compositions. This whole process can last days or weeks, however, when it is time to paint the work is spun down without a second thought.

The materials

Works on paper. Using watercolors on handmade paper with cotton rags, it is a beautiful paper, imported from India, heavy and wrinkled, with a strong personality that requires a lot of attention and experience to master it.

Works on canvas. Acrylics allow me to work in a way similar to watercolors on a variety of surfaces from paper and guarantee me great freedom of expression.

Nato a San Gimignano, Italia, nel 1955, ha studiato arte e architettura a Firenze quindi ha iniziato il suo lavoro nel 1980 in qualità di disegnatore, designer e pittore.

Ha partecipato a numerose esposizioni personali e collettive in Italia e nel mondo e molte opere figurano in collezioni pubbliche e private.

Statement

Forma, colore e textures costituiscono lo scheletro su cui costruisco le mie immagini, o forse sarebbe meglio parlare di visioni, o sogni perché tutto ha inizio e si sviluppa prima nella mia mente, più o meno inconsciamente e dopo, molto dopo, si trasferisce sulla tela o sulla carta. Attraverso lo studio dei miei soggetti, siano essi figure, città o paesaggi isolo ed elaboro ciò che per me rappresenta l’anima del soggetto stesso, ne carpisco le forme primitive,mi impadronisco del loro colore, delle luci e delle ombre,fisso, come in una fotografia, l’attimo magico in cui gli oggetti rivelano se stessi poi traduco tutto nel linguaggio universale del disegno e della pittura.

La figura

La figura umana è forse il primo soggetto rappresentato nella storia dell’arte mondiale, è presente in tutte le epoche storiche e costituisce quindi un tema pressoché obbligato per ogni artista. Il mio approccio alla figura umana è strettamente personale: abbandonando qualsiasi pretesa di rappresentazione fedele o realistica la mia ricerca si concentra sulla percezione volumetrica e coloristica del soggetto dando risalto alla relazione tra luce, colore e forma.

La città

La città è la culla delle nostre vite, incubatrice dei nostri pensieri, l’involucro che racchiude i nostri sogni, i successi e le sconfitte. La mia visione della città è una visione idealizzata, uno sguardo lontano che permette di astrarre dal contesto generale ciò che mi colpisce maggiormente dell’insieme di architetture, di strade, di spazi, finestre, tetti, terrazze e quant’altro. Ancora una volta sono le forme ed i colori, le luci e le ombre che emergono da questo processo di astrazione e stanno lì a dimostrare la mia idea di città. Infatti io non dipingo una città ma l’idea di città.

I paesaggi

Il paesaggio, in tutte le sue accezioni e sfumature, rappresenta il mio “porto sicuro”, un angolo riparato nella mia testa dove mi posso rifugiare e ricaricare in tutta tranquillità. Quando le idee scarseggiano o faticano a trovare la strada per emergere tutto ciò che devo fare è aprire il libro degli schizzi scorrendo centinaia di disegni e appunti che parlano della mia terra, la campagna, gli alberi, i fiori. È tutto lì dentro, disponibile e generoso e io non devo fare altro che coglierne i frutti.

“Rappresentare la vita è lo scopo principale della mia pittura. La figura umana, le città, la natura costituiscono degli ottimi soggetti da studiare e trasferire sulla tela o sulla carta, ma ciò che più mi interessa è scoprire e mettere in evidenza la relazione che c’è tra le forme e i colori di ciò che ho di fronte. Questa relazione la si scopre dall’osservazione attenta della realtà e si estrinseca in una rappresentazione strettamente personale dell’oggetto.”

Le idee     

Ogni dipinto ha una sua storia e una sua personale gestazione. Tutto può contribuire alla scintilla iniziale, una foto, una frase, una musica. Prima di iniziare passo molto tempo pensando al design generale della nuova tavola, agli schemi di colori da utilizzare, a cosa mettere in evidenza e cosa lasciare in secondo piano. Generalmente prendo molti appunti, faccio schizzi, provo dei colori, ombreggiature, scompongo il soggetto in porzioni che poi ricompongo diversamente, schematizzo varie soluzioni compositive. Tutto questo processo può durare giorni oppure settimane però quando è il momento di dipingere il lavoro viene giù filato senza ripensamenti.

I materiali

Opere su carta. Utilizzo gli acquarelli sulla carta fatta a mano con stracci di cotone, è una carta bellissima, importata dall’India, pesante e rugosa, con una sua forte personalità che richiede molta attenzione ed esperienza per padroneggiarla.

Opere su tela. Gli acrilici mi permettono di lavorare in maniera analoga agli acquarelli su superfici diverse dalla carta e mi garantiscono grande libertà espressiva.
